There was an interesting article about how you can be spied upon from your devices. Here is an excerpt from Wired.com:
How to Keep the NSA From Spying Through Your Webcam

“Sadly, covering your camera still won’t prevent spies, intruders and even web sites and phone apps from surreptitiously turning on the internal microphone on your computer or mobile phone, computer, or VoIP phone and listening in on conversations.

Muting the mic won’t work, since it’s possible for an intruder to unmute it. Your best defense is probably to insert a dummy plug into the microphone jack to prevent sound from being picked up by the internal mic. You can create a dummy plug by simply cutting off the unneeded portion of an old microphone plug. This won’t prevent someone from listening to your conversations when you need the mic, such as when using Skype, but it will at least thwart them from using the microphone on their own without you knowing.”

We are all tied to our devices and the newest technology and their convenience in our lives. HOWEVER, be wise. Take precautions now that you know how vulnerable you are to outside ears, so-to-speak.

Cyber Attacks-Opening Pandora’s Box

Do you have a a smart refrigerator, smart thermostat, some commonly purchased big screen TVs, etc.? The device may be listening to your conversations or you could be hacked, spied upon, or have your internet or electric come down without warning.

We haven’t had a major cyber attack. However we could, and it could put everyone at risk. It is a very real possibility that we all have to be aware of it now in order to prepare.

There is a gentleman who was interviewed by Larry King. As is brought up in the conversation, we are clueless as to cyber technology and what the capabilities are. One comment, ” If you want to have a private conversation, don’t have it front of your TV.” Wow! They actually do mention a brand name on the video.

The interview is of John McAfee, the tech expert and creator of the McAfee anti-virus program of which we are all familiar. Yes, he is considered by many to be an eccentric and controversial if you watched Dateline. However, he has incredible expertise over many years that gives a candid, unique perspective in the video below of what we are facing now and could face in the future. The graphic I chose for my header for now is a major city. People live on top of one another in so many cities. Here is a bit of a rundown of population stats:

So if there should be a natural or man-made disaster, being prepared is just a wise thing to do when you live in a highly populated area. Get to know your neighbors. Get to know who you can count on as friends. Be aware of seniors in your buildings and see if they need anything. Our natural tendency is to stick to ourselves; however, as so many things happen keeping track of one another will become important.

And, don’t forget to be prepared if you have pets. Our little friends/family members will need food and water, too.

Water, Water Everywhere and Not a Drop to Drink!

Hi-This is a photo from Katrina. Floods, devastation… photos most of us have seen before.

It was a natural disaster that can happen again anywhere. What can you do when you need potable water and it is no where to be found?

There is a solution, and it is quite reasonable. Get a Berkey! You may be the only source of drinkable water for neighbors who need potable water if there is an emergency such as shown to the left.

You can live without food for days if you have to do so. You cannot live without water.

The RNC Has Started!

The news is full of posts and You Tube videos regarding the Republican convention. Tempers rose yesterday and feelings are being aired on both sides. It should be an interesting week.

More sad news of police killed in Baton Rouge. Turkey went through a failed coup attempt and the after effects are being suffered. Yellowstone has been acting up and getting hotter, and there is so much more around the world.

Be prepared, Friends. Store up some water and at least a couple weeks of food. You will need water to reconstitute most storage food. So, please be aware of this. Canned foods with pop lids can be handy if you need something in a hurry.

I will go into more needed information regarding items you will want to have on hand like toilet paper. In Venezuela, toilet paper is getting to be so expensive. However, if you are like me, it is an important asset!:)

Seeds are good to have because if they are non-GMO, you can sprout them in a sprouter for fresh food at any time even if you live in an apartment or city condo. A small growing bed on a concrete patio or a grow bed and grow light overhead in-doors will suffice to encourage growth for the larger seeds. Something fresh with live enzymes is healthy for your family in times of stress.

Millions of Dollars Being Spent on Upcoming Political Convention Security

Can you imagine? Federal spending for the Republican Convention security of fifty million dollars is being spent of security for just one of the political conventions this month to offset Cleveland’s costs.

There should be a light coming on in your head that just as a precaution-just as a safety net for your family, it is well to consider being prepared for any emergency that could happen.

I am not an alarmist. I am just practical-very practical. And when it comes to family and what they need to survive everyday, I am passionate. I am sure that you feel the same way if you are on my site.

I have access to a few books that would come in handy for anyone to have on hand. Get them now. I will recommend more, but this is a start for you.

Things Are Shaking Up!

From all indications, things are seriously shaking up around the world. The biggest news this week-The Stock Market! People are becoming concerned and thinking about their savings, investments, and their retirement and social security, or the lack thereof. Experts are telling people to get prepared for any emergency that could ensue.

Weather changes from droughts in California to flooding in Texas and other areas, is making everyone become more aware of getting their homes supplied with everything from extra food and water to candles and generators. It is time to begin thinking of exactly what you need to have on hand.

I will be posting ideas, suggestions, and products to have on hand on this website. Don’t be like an ostrich and stick your head in the sand thinking that this all may not affect you.

The weather this winter may be a bit different than what you have experienced in the past. If for no other reason, be ready for the winter coming up.
